Why I Started Hosting DIY Workshops in Sudbury (And Why I’ll Never Stop)
Partager
When I started Moose You Mat Company, I wasn’t just thinking about selling doormats.
I was thinking about connection.
At the time, I saw a gap. There weren’t a lot of creative, hands-on experiences where people could get together, unplug, and actually make something. Not something from a big-box store. Not something mass-produced. Something personal.
Sudbury is full of hardworking people. Parents. Professionals. Business owners. Caregivers. And most of us are constantly moving. Constantly managing responsibilities. Constantly “on.”
Creative time often gets pushed to the bottom of the list.
But here’s what I’ve learned: when people sit down at a workshop table, something shifts.
The stress softens.
The conversations deepen.
The laughter comes easier.
And then something even better happens.
They realize they can do it.
I’ve watched people walk into workshops saying, “I’m not creative,” and leave holding a doormat they’re genuinely proud of. I’ve seen birthdays celebrated, friendships strengthened, coworkers bond, and even complete strangers leave as new connections.
Workshops became more than paint and stencils.
They became experiences.
And if I’m honest, they changed me too.
Hosting workshops pushed me to become more organized, more efficient, more confident as a business owner. It forced me to build systems, refine processes, and raise my standards. It showed me that creativity and structure can absolutely coexist.
That’s why I’ll never stop.
Because what happens around that table matters.
It’s not just about the finished mat.
It’s about the confidence, the conversation, and the memory attached to it.
And that’s something you can’t buy off a shelf.
