Why This Business Isn’t Just a Business

Why This Business Isn’t Just a Business

Midweek always feels like a reset point.

Not quite the beginning. Not quite the end. Just that quiet middle space where you can pause and check in with yourself.

This week, I’ve been thinking about why I started Moose You Mat Company in the first place.

It wasn’t about scaling.
It wasn’t about revenue.
It wasn’t about building a brand.

It was about survival.

When my dad passed away, my brain would not slow down. Grief is loud in a way people don’t talk about. It sits in your chest. It replays memories. It keeps you awake. It makes even normal days feel heavy.

I didn’t need a distraction.
I needed relief.

Creating became that relief.

When I’m designing a mat, prepping a paddle, setting up tables before a workshop — my thoughts organize themselves. My breathing steadies. My mind focuses on something tangible and present instead of spiraling into “what ifs” and “I wish.”

There is something powerful about working with your hands.

You can’t overthink while you’re lining up a stencil.
You can’t dwell while you’re painting.
You can’t scroll and truly create at the same time.

You just… create.

And in that creating, I found calm.

Some people run.
Some people journal.
Some people hit the gym.

I build workshops.

And the beautiful part? What started as something to steady me has turned into something that steadies others too. I watch people walk into a class stressed from their week — and I see their shoulders drop within minutes of starting.

That’s why this doesn’t feel like work to me.

It feels like breathing space.
It feels like clarity.
It feels like purpose born out of pain.

If you’ve ever come to a workshop and thought, “Wow, I needed this” — just know… I needed it too.

That’s the heart behind Moose You Mat Company.

And that’s something I’ll never take for granted.

Until next week,
Keep creating space for yourself. 🫎
